The Achimota Cricket Oval C came alive on Thursday, April 11, 2024, as the Nsromma Cricket Academy organized the much anticipated Eid ul-Fitr (Sala) Cricket Cup. It was a hard ball 30 overs match, and it featured two U19 teams from the academy: Sbinc Lions and Leopards. Led by captains Derrick Ateak and Prince Adotei, respectively, the young cricketers showcased their skills and determination in a match that kept spectators thrilled throughout.

Winning the toss, Leopards elected to field, aiming to restrict Sbinc Lions’ batting lineup. The Lions, however, put up a commendable performance, posting a total of 157 runs before being bowled all out in 24 overs. Lee Nyarko emerged as the top scorer, smashing 37 runs off just 28 balls, while Derrick Ateak contributed 28 runs in 23 balls, and Eric Amoah made 13 runs in 15 balls. Bernard Addo of Leopards proved to be the standout bowler, taking an impressive 3 wickets for a mere 8 runs.

In pursuit of victory, Leopards took to the crease, but their batting lineup struggled against the disciplined bowling attack of Sbinc Lions. Ultimately, they were bowled out for 116 runs in 26.3 overs, falling short by 41 runs. Bernard Kotey was the leading batsman for the Leopards, scoring 19 runs from 23 balls. The Ateak brothers, Derrick and David, showcased their bowling prowess, each claiming three wickets for Sbinc Lions.

The match witnessed outstanding performances in the field as well. Jocab Ayolihine of Leopards was awarded the Best Fielder, while Jeremiah Mensah, also from Leopards, received accolades for the Best Catch of the match. Bernard Addo of Sbinc Lions was recognized as the Best Bowler, having taken 3 wickets for just 8 runs. Richard Baaleri was honored with the Fair Play award for displaying exemplary sportsmanship and leadership throughout the game.

Lee Nyarko, fresh from his national team debut during the Africa Games, proved his mettle once again, claiming multiple awards. He was awarded the Best Batsman for his impressive knock of 37 runs in 28 balls, as well as the Player of the Match for his all-round contribution. Nyarko’s exceptional cricket shot also earned him recognition during the game.

The match was officiated by the lone umpire, SNEB Asamoah, while Emmanuel Okyere and Edward Arthur performed scoring duties with utmost precision.

The Eid ul-Fitr Cricket Cup 2024 showcased the immense talent and passion for cricket among the young players of the Nsromma Cricket Academy.
